An academician and expert team from the Innovation China program came on official invitation on Oct 20 to Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, in order to survey its technological innovation.

The Innovation China program was launched by the China Association for Science and Technology, aiming to collect the resources of industries, universities, research institutions, and financial institutions to accelerate the commercialization and application of scientific and technological achievements.

Guiyang is a transportation and communications hub and is also an industrial base in Southwest China, connecting the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

In recent years, Guiyang has achieved rapid development in the big data industry and formed critical mass in terms of advanced equipment manufacturing, medium and high-end consumer goods manufacturing, electronic information manufacturing, the modern chemicals industry, medicine, aluminum and aluminum processing.

During the survey, the academicians and experts were divided into four groups to visit companies related to big data, equipment manufacturing, new materials and aluminum base new materials.

Wang Jinxiang, an expert from the China Software Industry Association, said the team would help Guiyang bring in big data professionals, based on the city's needs, to boost big data and the development of the digital economy.

The team learned that after years of development, the equipment manufacturing industry – featuring aerospace, automobiles, engineering machinery, metal products and instruments – had become one of Guiyang's pillar industries.

As a provincial capital in the Yangtze River Economic Belt – as well as being China's data valley and a national logistics hub city – Guiyang has leveraged its natural resources and local industrial foundations to become an ideal place to develop the hydrogen industry.

The team visited Guiyang's planning hall for its hydrogen industry cluster and learned that Guiyang's local enterprises had cooperated with overseas universities and enterprises on hydrogen production and storage technologies.

After the survey, the visitors discussed various aspects with representatives of Guiyang's enterprises and proffered opinions on their development.
