The recently concluded big data expo in the city of Guiyang, Guizhou province, saw as many as 30 companies signing contracts with the city on smart tourism, call center business and cloud services and worth an estimated 20 billion yuan ($3.2 billion), expo organizers say.
The expo has attracted entrepreneurs, scholars and senior government officials who came to discuss the future of big data and its role in provincial development.
In commenting on the event, the vice-mayor, Liu Chuncheng, said, "The Guiyang Big Data Expo will be a continuing event," then went on to explain that cloud computing has used during the expo itself to collect data on exhibitors and visitors and to analyze it to support next year's expo.
The expo also saw the announcement of a "Guiyang Declaration on Big Data", reached through common understanding on the big data industry development in resources, security, exchanges, and innovation.
There were many top hi-tech companies on hand, including Google, Alibaba, Hewlett Packard, and Foxconn and 17 Internet giants who came to present their latest products and share their experience with others.
The organizers said on May 29 that next year's event will open in Guiyang on May 26, and run through May 29, with plans to set up four pavilions on a 40,000-square-meter space.
