Maodong village, which is located about six kilometers south of Guiyang's Xifeng county, has a 300 mu (20 hectares) nursery base which has brought more business opportunities to the scenic village.
The nursery base's owner Guo Zhongliang graduated with a major in urban landscape architecture. His hometown, Wenjiang in Sichuan province, is a county well-known for its flower-plant industry. In 2012, he came to Maodong village to start the nursery base, drawn by local investment promotion and capital introduction.
His nursery base has cultivated hundreds of varieties of flowers and plants, which are mainly sold to places including Chongqing, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Zhejiang. More than 200 osmanthus trees that are found alongside Renmin Avenue, a municipal road in Guiyang that was completed in 2018, all came from his nursery base.

Villagers that work for the nursery base are able to receive 80 yuan ($11.57) a day. In addition, they can transfer land to the nursery base to get dividends. This way they can earn more money compared to planting traditional crops.
Xifeng Concentration Camp, a revolutionary historical museum adjacent to Maodong village, also generates tourism revenues for villagers. Villagers are encouraged to start up agritainment businesses to increase their family income.
According to Chen Mengju, Party secretary of the village, the museum has directly boosted the development of rural tourism. "The annual number of tourists who visited Xifeng Concentration Camp has exceeded 700,000," she said.

Chen Zhongxian used to work away from his home in the village. He decided to open a nongjiale, also known as a farm homestay, to provide local delicacies and accommodation for tourists in 2017. Now he can earn an income of more than 20,000 yuan a month in peak season for his family.
In recent years, Xifeng county has made great efforts in rural tourism, building a large number of demonstration sites including Maodong village.
The infrastructure and environment of the village have undergone enormous changes. In 2018, the net income per capita of villagers reached more than 16,000 yuan.
