Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has completed 141,200 mu (9,413 hectares) of afforestation this year, surpassing the municipal government's target of 120,000 mu of afforestation for the whole year, according to data recently reported at the 24th Session of the 14th Standing Committee of the Guiyang Municipal People's Congress.
In late April this year, the city started the rectification work according to China's forest law, as well as the protection measures of Guiyang’s greenbelt construction. In order to maintain the dynamic balance of forestland resources, the city has planted 641.14 hectares of supplementary forestland to compensate for the forestland areas occupied by construction projects.
In addition, Guiyang developed ecological industrial models, which combined forests with seedlings, fruits, tea, and medicinal herbs. It has invested more than 5.17 million yuan ($738,666) in the construction of forestry industry projects, forest tourism projects, and healthcare projects.
