During this year's May Day holiday from April 30 to May 4, the suburbs of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, were popular among tourists. Guiyang's 44 main scenic spots were visited 1 million times.

Tianhetan scenic area in Huaxi district received the most visitors at 153,000 people, followed by Huaxi Wetland Park, Qingyan Ancient Town, and Qianlingshan Park.

The 12 scenic spots being monitored were visited 553,000 times during the holiday, an increase of 8.2 percent over the same period in 2019, and 113 percent over this year's Qingming Festival holiday.

Among the 32 homestays neighboring Guiyang's main scenic spots, 25 had an occupancy rate of more than 50 percent and 14 had an occupancy rate of more than 70 percent.

Ahead of the May Day holiday, the Guiyang culture and tourism bureau cooperated with online travel agencies to launch 22 tourist routes themed on camping, hiking, riding, outdoor sports, family tours, city tours and boutique homestays.

By 4 pm on May 4, Guiyang had received no reports of accidents or complaints from tourists.
