Guiyang is seeking to balance environmental protection with industrial transformation and upgrading.

In recent years, the city has been working to develop into a "no-waste city", vigorously promoting the consumption of phosphogypsum year by year, promoting the safe application of phosphogypsum building materials and turning phosphogypsum waste residue into building materials.

Guiyang is focusing on green production, building, energy, finance, transportation and consumption, and promoting the development of a green economy. In addition, the city has scientifically formulated a plan to peak carbon emissions, high energy-consuming industries are becoming greener and cleaner, and carbon emissions are gradually being reduced.

The city's achievements in developing into a national ecological civilization demonstration city have been continuously demonstrated as well, and in the past five years, Guiyang and Guian New Area's green economy has made up an increasing proportion of regional GDP – now sitting at 47 percent – and the utilization of general industrial solid waste disposal has been stable at over 98 percent.

Guiyang will focus on pollution and carbon reduction before 2035, and its environment is expected to continue to improve.
