Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, released a plan to become a zero-waste city this year, and set tasks related to solid waste source reduction, resource utilization, safe disposal, energy conservation and carbon reduction.

According to the plan, Guiyang will build 13 medium and large-scale waste transfer and sorting centers by the end of 2022 and eight by the end of 2023. It will also renovate the current 15 small-scale waste transfer facilities in urban areas.

By September, Guiyang's Yunyan, Nanming, Guanshanhu, Wudang, Baiyun and Huaxi districts had realized zero-landfill of domestic waste. By 2023, Guiyang is expected to dispose of 2,980 metric tons of wet waste per day and establish a classification and graded management mechanism for construction waste, as well as encourage the utilization of construction waste.

By 2025, the resource utilization rate of construction waste in Guiyang is expected to exceed 30 percent.

Guiyang will adhere to the goal of green and circular development of animal husbandry and focus on the collection, fertilizer treatment and on-site use of livestock and poultry feces.

According to the data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in 2021, Guiyang's output of livestock and poultry feces was 4.3 million tons, and the comprehensive utilization rate was 90.13 percent, 3.7 percentage points higher than the provincial average.

In the future, Guiyang will fight against environmental pollution and strive to make new achievements in the construction of an ecological civilization.
