Guiyang and Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province announced the top 10 developments for the year in digital economy on Dec 30.

1. Guiyang Big Data Sci-tech Innovation City starts construction

Guiyang Big Data Sci-tech Innovation City started construction in March, and attracted 409 big data companies with another 224 companies under business negotiations.

2. Guiyang recognized as national information consumption demonstration city

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Guiyang was ranked as excellent among China's 26 information consumption demonstration cities in July.

3. Guiyang and Guian selected as national "gigabit cities"

Guiyang and Guian's 5G construction and optical fiber networks were highly ranked in China, thus both places were recognized as national "gigabit cities".

4. Global Big Data Exchange upgraded

The Global Big Data Exchange in Guiyang completed reformation in March and launched a data element circulation and trading platform, as well as released China's first data trading rule system. It has attracted and cultivated 402 data dealers, 17 data agencies and 606 data producers since January 2022, and achieved over 361 million yuan ($52.24 million) in transaction value.

5. 2022 Big Data Expo opens online

The 2022 Big Data Expo was held online on May 26, and included eight forums and eight conferences. It released 55 technological achievements and seven theoretical achievements. Over 160 companies exhibited 1,112 new products, technologies and solutions online during this event.

6. Software and information technology service industry develops rapidly

Since the beginning of 2022, the revenue of Guiyang and Guian's software and information technology service industry has exceeded 50 billion yuan, and is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan in the future.

7. Data centers see surges in investment

Since the beginning of 2022, Guiyang and Guian attracted 11 data center projects, becoming areas with the most number of super-large data centers in the world. The first batch of the newly attracted data centers has a total investment of 20.85 billion yuan.

8. "Eastern Data and Western Computing" project underway

Guizhou began construction on its national integrated computing power network, while Guian simultaneously began construction on its computing power industrial cluster and hyper-interconnection computing power infrastructure in 2022. Guiyang and Guian have realized direct internet connection with 32 main cities. More than 80 percent of Guian's data center cluster serves other provinces.

9. The national big data (Guizhou) comprehensive pilot area upgraded its exchange and experience center

With the renovation work completed on Dec 29, the exchange and experience center can present digital development achievements in Guizhou through company projects and cases with clearer presentation, richer content, and enhanced viewability.

10. Excellent digital application scenarios released

Guiyang and Guian released the 2022 excellent digital application scenarios list, which represents their latest achievements in digital transformation, on Dec 30. They also released their 2022 application needs list, which states the current digital issues and needs.
