The China Meteorological Administration recently issued highlights in meteorological informatization work in 2023, which pointed out that Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, will explore the circulation of meteorological data this year.

In April last year, Guiyang set up China's first official meteorological data section at the Global Big Data Exchange, providing a business environment and platform for the transaction of meteorological data, and regulating the trade process.

By the end of 2022, Guiyang had achieved more than 10.4 million yuan ($1.51 million) in meteorological data trading.

Guiyang has been actively exploring and solving pricing difficulties in data trading. To standardize market competition and order, Guiyang released China's first white paper on meteorological data asset value assessment, which provides a theoretical basis for a unified State-set price range for meteorological data.

Guiyang also participated in the preparation of "management methods (trail) for the circulation and transaction of meteorological data in Guizhou", which is the first of its kind in China.

The management methods provide guidance and standards to ensure the security of meteorological data, increase the added value of meteorological data, unify the circulation channel and process of data sharing among meteorological departments, explore and standardize classified operation authorization of meteorological data, and promote the high-efficiency sharing and circulation of meteorological data.

According to Guizhou Xinqixiang Technology Co, the establishment of the meteorological data circulation and trading system could promote the development of meteorological data production facilities, computing power, and algorithms.

At the same time, the system can cultivate many derivative industries, such as data compliance services, data security services, data asset services, data financial services, and data commercial operation services.
