Over 20,000 new trees were recently planted in Changpoling National Forest Park and Luchongguan Provincial Forest Park in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

These planting activities aim to improve the quality of the forest belts around Guiyang. The two parks are currently undergoing renovations covering about 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares) each, including the planting of over 10,000 new trees per park.

Luchongguan Provincial Forest Park has already completed the planting of its new trees, which include 19 different species such as red-flowered magnolia, goose-footed mahogany, white magnolia, purple magnolia, maple and camphor tree.

The newly-planted trees are expected to contribute to the renovation of these man-planted forests, improve the forest landscape, restore degraded forests, and promote the development of characteristic economic forests. These efforts aim to improve the overall quality of urban forests and optimize their tree species structure.

Guiyang plans to become a demonstration base for forestry-derived economy, and a forest city that integrates ecological civilization, outdoor recreational activities, and the healthcare industry.

Since 2022, Guiyang has applied for national subsidies from the ecological civilization pilot zone fund, which totals 10 million yuan ($1.46 million). This has been used to improve the quality of the forest belts in Changpoling National Forest Park and Luchongguan Provincial Forest Park.
