Guiyang's ecological environment remained at a high quality last year, the municipal bureau of ecology and environment reported at a press conference on May 30.

Last year marked the first time on record that Guiyang saw zero days with pollution, ranking it 6th among the 168 key atmospheric cities in the country and 4th among provincial capitals.

The water quality has also seen steady improvement. Last year, the water quality of 28 national and provincial controlled sections in Guiyang all reached the standard level. Meanwhile, the quality of centralized drinking water sources above the county level also reached the standard level.

The soil quality was generally stable, and the safe utilization of key construction land reached 100 percent.

More than 1,000 potential environmental safety problems were investigated and tackled.

The city's biodiversity remained at a high level. So far, 1,641 species of plants, 760 species of animals, 510 species of macro-fungi and 297 species of insects have been found in Guiyang.
