In recent years, Guiyang and Guian New Area have made unwavering efforts to improving the environment while building the modernization.

In terms of urban atmosphere control, efforts have been made to solve related problems such as road dust, open burning and traffic exhaust as well as encourage enterprises to implement ultra-low emission transformation.

Both areas have also leveraged big data to build the Guiyang atmospheric monitoring analysis management system to support the air pollution prevention and control work.

As a result, last year marked the first time on record that Guiyang and Guian saw zero days with pollution.

Guiyang has reached the national second-class standard for ambient air quality for six consecutive years, ranking 6th among the 168 key atmospheric cities in the country and 4th among provincial capitals.

Guiyang, known as the central city with the best vegetation preservation in karst areas in the world, boasts abundant wildlife resources. The rich biodiversity benefits from the strict protection of green space and forests in the areas.

In 2022, Guiyang had 5,543,300 mu (369,553.33 hectares) of woodlands and 6,484,100 mu of forest, with a forest coverage rate of 55.3 percent, ranking 3rd among all provincial capitals. The city has built 2.18 million mu of forests around the city, and 1,025 parks are throughout the city.

The water quality in Guiyang and Guian was also generally good. Last year, the water quality of 28 national and provincial controlled sections in Guiyang all reached the standard.

Two provincial-level areas in Guian maintained good water quality all year-round.

Looking ahead, Guiyang and Guian will continue working to consolidate previous results and further improve the local environment.
