In order to increase the amount of space where people can interact as well as make it easier for people to experience nature and engage in recreation, sports and fitness, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, opened 12 new green spaces in urban parks on June 19.

The green spaces cover an area of 5.8 hectares, include 4.37 hectares of grassy fields.

The 12 parks all feature good natural conditions, relatively flat terrain, high foot traffic, and strong supporting infrastructure. They include Yueshanhu Park in Guanshanhu district, Ma'anshan Park in Baiyun district, Donghu Park in Kaiyang county, Shuiling Park in Xifeng county and Yuelianghu Park in Guian New Area.

Yueshanhu Park and Ma'anshan Park have opened up 13,710 square meters and over 6,000 sq meters of green space, respectively, since May.

During operating hours, visitors can enjoy picnics, exercise, and camp in designated open and shared areas.

To protect local wildlife, certain areas have been made off-limits.

To ensure the growth and cleanliness of the green spaces, the parks have also made efforts to select more trampling-resistant varieties of grass, strengthen water and fertilizer management and pest control, invite professional and technical personnel to regularly inspect the grass and arrange for special personnel to carry out cleaning.

Next, Guiyang will use the pilot parks as a model to promote the openness and sharing of urban parks and green spaces.
