Guiyang strives to develop forestry derived economy

In the first half of the year, Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province issued 18 forest carbon tickets, covering an area of 258 mu (17.2 hectares), with a total value of 1 million yuan ($140,000).
The total forest carbon tickets of Guiyang and Gui'an reached 2,445 mu, while 2,100 mu of that have been issued, with a total value exceeding 8.15 million yuan. Kaiyang county applied for the first batch of provincial forestry carbon tickets, with an area of 1,029.3 mu, which achieved a reduction of 6,741.2 metric tons of carbon emissions during the monitoring period. Two transactions were completed with a carbon sequestration amount of 418 tons and a transaction value exceeding 35,000 yuan.
Guiyang and Gui'an improved the quality of 4,000 mu of state-owned forest farms and vigorously developed the 5,910-mu underwood planting industry, including edible fungi and Chinese medicinal materials.
Additionally, Guiyang boasts 17 large-scale forest managing bodies each with an area of over 500 mu, representing a 70 percent year-on-year increase. The forest area of the forest managing bodies exceeded 40,000 mu, a year-on-year increase of 34.23 percent.
