On Oct 27, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was selected to join the "Cities with Nature" platform during the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity held in Cali, Colombia.
"Cities with Nature" is the world's largest platform for sharing knowledge and cases of biodiversity conservation in urban and local. Selected cities must demonstrate outstanding achievements in biodiversity conservation and serve as a typical representative.

Guizhou ranks fourth in terms of biodiversity among provinces in China. Guiyang has established five national ecological civilization demonstration zones, five innovative practice bases for practicing the principle that "lush mountains and lucid waters are invaluable assets", and 26 nature reserves, including seven national-level ones, playing a pivotal role in maintaining ecological balance, protecting biodiversity, and promoting the city's sustainable development.
In 2021, Guiyang took the lead nationwide in initiating a comprehensive biodiversity survey, discovering a total of 7,691 species, including four new animal species, three new microbial species and 221 species of cave-dwelling organisms. These achievements provide valuable resources for biodiversity research in China and around the world.
