Guiyang sees strong agriculture in 2024

In 2024, the total output value of the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery industries in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, reached 36.37 billion yuan ($5.02 billion), a year-on-year increase of 4.2 percent. The added value of the primary industry was 21.52 billion yuan, an increase of 4.2 percent.

The respective growth rates were as follows: 4.3 percent in planting industry, 8.8 percent in forestry, 3.4 percent in animal husbandry, and 165.5 percent in fisheries.

The city cultivated a total of 1.35 million mu (90,000 hectares) of grain, with a total output of 437,200 metric tons, marking an 8.9-percent increase. A total of 44,000 mu of high-standard farmland was established, with the comprehensive mechanization rate of major crops expected to exceed 61.51 percent. The growth rates in grain area and output ranked first in the province.

Concentrated and large-scale ecological vegetable bases covering an area of 160,000 mu were established, producing a total of 3.36 million tons of vegetables throughout the year, a 3.9-percent increase. Additionally, Guiyang ranked fourth nationally in the "vegetable basket" initiative assessment.

To boost the development of cash crops, 44 projects were implemented to improve the quality and efficiency of orchards, with 60,000 mu of orchards already renovated. The total output of garden fruit reached 727,300 tons, increasing by 5.2 percent.

Looking at animal husbandry, the total output of pork, beef, mutton, and poultry meat reached 170,600 tons, showing a 3.3-percent increase. Poultry meat production increased by 10 percent, beef by 1.0 percent, and poultry eggs by 38.6 percent.

In the fishery industry, five ecological fishery projects were completed and put into operation throughout the year, adding 1.03 million pounds of aquatic products, exceeding the annual target by 2.8 percent.
