The core districts of Guiyang city of Southwest China's Guizhou province - Yunyan, Nanming, and Huaxi - have each surpassed a GDP of 100 billion yuan ($14.19 billion). As the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period concludes, these districts are leading Guiyang into a new phase of high-quality development.
Yunyan district, the smallest county-level administrative area of Guizhou, has achieved the highest economic density in the city. Its GDP has climbed from 86 billion yuan to 109.2 billion yuan, while 11 buildings saw tax revenues exceed 100 million yuan. Nanming district was the first to reach the 100-billion-yuan mark in 2022, maintaining the highest economic output among all districts and counties in the province. Its electronic information manufacturing output has surged from 0.34 percent to 30.27 percent. Since its opening, Qingyun Road Pedestrian Street has accumulated sales of 1.93 billion yuan and attracted 53.71 million visitors. Huaxi district exemplifies the transformation of natural resources into economic value, with its GDP rising from 63.7 billion yuan to over 100 billion yuan.
The progress of the three districts has bolstered the overall economic growth of the city. Guiyang's GDP has risen from 450.5 billion yuan at the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) to 577.7 billion yuan in 2024, approaching the 600 billion yuan milestone. Yunyan's building economy, Nanming's electronics manufacturing and first-store economy, and Huaxi's cultural tourism integration and modern agriculture collectively enrich the concept of an "industrial strong city" and a "digital vibrant city". Furthermore, their commitment to ecology has built the shared brand of "Cool Guiyang". The city's forest coverage rate remains above 55 percent, and the air quality index is excellent about 99 percent of the time, which is crucial for attracting talent and upgrading industries in the three districts.
