In 2026, Guiyang will play host to more than 20 international, national, and local sporting events, presenting a vibrant scene of "major series events every year and exciting competitions every month".
The city aims to fully build itself into a "base for summer competitions and training" and a "high-quality destination for outdoor mountain sports", making "Cool Guiyang" a top choice for sports enthusiasts.
The city will showcase its world-class hosting capabilities with a series of elite tournaments. The action kicks off in June with the prestigious World Boxing Cup 2026, drawing top pugilists from across the globe.

Late August will see the arrival of the UIPM 2026 Pentathlon World Championships, a top-tier Category A event on the international calendar.
September will bring high-octane action with the World Climbing Series Guiyang 2026 from Sept 11 to 13, where "wall-flying" athletes will race for glory, coinciding with the Asian Mountain Bike Championships. The roster will also include the Guiyang Open 2026 and the World Climbing Asian Youth Climbing Championship Guiyang 2026.
Beyond the international arena, Guiyang will foster widespread participation through upgraded domestic events, allowing the public to share in the vitality of sports.
The chengchao tournament, also known as the City Football Invitational Tournament Guiyang, running from March to November, expands into a cross-provincial festival for grassroots players, emphasizing fun, inclusivity, and community spirit.
Runners are also in for a treat: the Cherry Blossom Half Marathon in March will offer a scenic spring route, while the Guiyang Marathon in June, famed for its challenging "Hero's 18 Slopes" course, champions the ethos that "Running Happy is Fundamental".
From May to July, three national climbing championships will test the skills of top climbers.

Guiyang will also continue to honor and expand its sporting traditions, enriching the city's sports culture. April will mark the 12th World Table Tennis Day alongside the 2026 CTTA "National Sport in Parks" Outdoor Table Tennis Series, bringing the beloved sport closer to the community.
By optimizing its event system, Guiyang closely tracks the two major themes of "summer competitions and training" and "mountain and outdoor sports" by strategically planning distinctive events.
And by enhancing its forward-looking planning and evaluation of events, the city is concentrating its resources to build high-quality competitions.
It has already strengthened cross-departmental coordination and collaboration to elevate the professionalism with which major events are organized, while also offering service support, and an international reception – all while firmly ensuring safety as the baseline.
Guiyang is also working to better integrate culture, sports, commerce, and tourism. It promotes innovative measures, actively fosters a vibrant event atmosphere, and continuously amplifies the comprehensive driving effect of events on urban development.
