Guiyang's performance market booms

Since 2023, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has hosted a total of 78 large-scale commercial performances, attracting an audience of 1.99 million people, with over 55 percent coming from outside the province. Box office revenue reached 1.7 billion yuan ($249 million), driving a comprehensive consumption of 8.97 billion yuan, placing it among the top 10 concert box offices in China.

According to Beijing Damai Cultural Media Development Co, from 2023 to 2025, the performance market in Guizhou has experienced rapid growth, with box office revenues nearly doubling. Guiyang contributed 90 percent of the box office revenue, with a growth rate of 120 percent for two consecutive years, with an increasing number of top artists choosing Guiyang as a tour destination.

Estimates from the China Association of Performing Arts showed that Guizhou hosted 13,300 commercial performances in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 9.02 percent, with box office revenues surpassing 1.84 billion yuan, a 17.98 percent increase year-on-year, while 5.31 million people attended, a 10.46 percent increase year-on-year. In Guiyang, the proportion of audiences from other cities attending large performances exceeds 68 percent, higher than the national average, with cross-city audiences staying for an average of 2.34 days and spending nearly 2,000 yuan per capita while in the city.
