On May 6, the Chinese International Education Foundation officially approved the joint application by Guizhou University and the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka to establish a Confucius Institute. This marks the fourth Confucius Institute established overseas by Guizhou University and the first one to be established in an Asian country by Guizhou province.

The University of Peradeniya, founded in 1942, is Sri Lanka's largest and most prestigious academic institution. Substantial progress has already been made on the "China-Sri Lanka Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Tea Ecological Control", a collaboration between Guizhou University and the University of Peradeniya which has been approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The establishment of the Confucius Institute will boost cultural exchanges and Chinese language education, building on the existing agricultural technology collaboration.

To date, Guizhou University has established Confucius Institutes and Chinese language teaching centers across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, forming a network for international Chinese education and cultural exchange covering major regions worldwide.
