In Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, Wudang district is seeking high-quality development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), according to Zhu Gang, secretary of Wudang district's Party committee.

Zhu said that the next five years is the key period for Wudang's construction into a "garden city", and the district will make efforts to become a high-quality development demonstration zone in the province.

To achieve rapid development, the district will focus on the work of "one lead, four synchronizations and three doublings".

"One lead" refers to leading the high-quality economic and social development in Wudang district through the construction of the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and medical equipment industrial park.

"Four synchronizations" refers to the simultaneous promotion of new industrialization, new urbanization, agricultural modernization and tourism industrialization.

"Three doublings" refers to the goal of doubling the regional GDP, population size and built-up urban area. That is, the regional GDP should increase from 17.25 billion yuan ($2.63 billion) in 2020 to 32.5 billion yuan by 2025, the population should increase from 235,500 to more than 500,000, and the urban area should increase from 22 square kilometers to 45 sq km.

To achieve these goals, Wudang district will build the TCM and medical equipment industrial park to a high standard. The district has compiled a development plan for the industrial park, which will cover a planned area of 57.58 sq km at the junction of Dongfeng town, Shuitian town and Xiaba town.

The district will then develop a modern industrial system led by the health and pharmaceutical industry. It will build a 10-billion-yuan-level park to promote major industrial breakthroughs and development, with the TCM and medical equipment industrial park playing the leading role.

In addition, the district will accelerate new industrialization, with TCM processing and medical equipment manufacturing taking the leading role. It will accelerate a new type of urbanization that integrates industry, city and people, and boost agricultural modernization based on the planting and processing of Chinese medicinal materials.

Wudang will also push the tourism industrialization featuring hot springs, healthcare and modern services.
