The regional finals of "Maker in China" innovation and entrepreneurship competition for small and medium-sized businesses were held in Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – on July 19-20.

After two days of competition, 40 projects won prizes, with 30 qualifying to move on to the provincial quarterfinals.

During the regional finals, a project applying aerotechnics won first prize in the enterprise category, for solving large-scale vehicle problems that stem from a degradation in braking efficiency following continuous braking.

Elsewhere, Guizhou Medical University's innovative chemicals medicine project won first prize in the individual group category, with more than 20 sci-tech achievements and 10 invention patents.

The entries that made it to the regional finals operate in big data and electronic informational manufacturing, high-end manufacturing, artificial intelligence, medicine, handicrafts, agricultural product processing and emerging services.

The judges said that some of the projects could resolve bottlenecks in the manufacturing and medicine industries.

Moving forwards, plans are for Guiyang to continue to support the development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
